Week 9 Top 10 Plays

Hon. Mention — Harris Rewrites Record Book — First Name

On his 19th carry Friday, Stone Bridge junior running back Marcus Harris broke the single-season school record for rush attempts in the season, previously held by Grant Harris (2000). He finished with 33 carries for 200 yards and two scores.

Hon. Mention — Goins Up the Ladder
Oakton senior Ray Goins kicked a 42-yard field goal in this Concorde game at Robinson, but was best remembered for this floating, LynnSwanneqsue 31-yard catch.

No. 10 — WR Hands at DB
Fowler Fair
West Potomac senior Kevin Fowler, listed as a wide receiver, catches this tipped pass while backpedaling for a late-second quarter interception.

Less Than Jake

Marshall senior two-way starter Jake Bennett lays out full-extension for an interception against Fairfax as time expires in the first half.

No. 9Condah’s Night
Fairfax senior Musa Condah intercepts a deflected Marshall pass and takes it 27 yards for a touchdown, his second non-offensive score of the season. The Rebels shut out the Statesmen, 21-0, on the road.

No. 8Bye, Bye, Beiro
McLean senior Riley Beiro rushed 27 times for 142 yards and two scores against Stone Bridge, becoming the first running back to crack the 100-yard mark this season against the Bulldogs. The Highlanders lost, though, 38-21, at home.

No. 7Harvey Kick Return TD
Langley stunned South Lakes, 24-21, in Reston Friday. The first Saxon touchdown came on the kickoff following the Seahawks’ first score, as sophomore stud Marcus Harvey went 89 yards to the house.

No. 6 — Hands Team
Wilkinson Reels it In
Madison senior receiver Tyler Wilkinson hauls in this 21-yard pass from senior quarterback Eric Roland, needing just one hand to do so.

Too Gl’Easy
West Springfield junior receiver Lee Gleason pulls in this pass from senior quarterback Matt Prokop with one hand, showing incredible balance and concentration.

Zanellato Safe at Third
Robinson junior receiver Matt Zanellato goes to the ground for this 15-yard reception from junior quarterback Mike LoPresti. Zanellato was LoPresti’s target on all eight pass attempts in the Rams’ 35-17 win over the Cougars Friday.

Leeth Catch from Back
Herndon junior receiver Aaron Leeth slips on this slant, but still finds a way to catch the pass from senior quarterback Zack Ozycz while on the ground.

No. 5Golden Harper
Edison senior running back Angus Harper carried 21 times for 109 yards and three scores in the 29-20 win at Stuart Friday, including this 21-yard, second-quarter score that left five Raiders in his wake.

No. 4How Great Thou Bart
On the opening kickoff, Yorktown senior athlete C.J. Bartholomew broke free for a 91-yard return touchdown. He made an impact in all three phases of Friday’s 21-3 win at Mount Vernon, adding a touchdown reception and an interception.

No. 3Three by Karl
Washington-Lee senior receiver — and converted quarterback — Karl Lendenmann caught five passes for 80 yards and three scores as the Generals beat the Warriors, 28-6. Any one of three plays could justify this ranking.

No. 2Shak Diesel
West Potomac senior outside linebacker Shakil White already swatting a pass from the defensive end position, but Lake Braddock didn’t learn. White tipped this Bruin pass attempt to himself and raced 47 yards for a pick-six to open the scoring. Lake Braddock, though, scored seven unanswered touchdowns for a 49-6 win.

No. 1Powers’ Powers
Madison junior fullback Ben Powers takes this trap play and is stacked up at the line by the entire Jefferson front seven. But Powers never stops pumping his legs and, like a bowling ball in slow motion, busts through every defender for a 42-yard score. The Warhawks won, 34-7.
