Westfield’s wrestling team hosted Centreville and Oakton High Schools Wednesday night in its first Concorde District dual meet of the season — and the Bulldogs couldn’t have fared any better.
Westfield not only beat both Centreville and Oakton — it held both of its opponents scoreless.
The Bulldog’s first match ended in a 76heavyweight-0 shutout of the Cougars, winning all 14 individual matches. Westfield totaled seven pins, and the Cougars forfeited three matches. The record pin time for the night was made by Greg Bush at 189 pounds, who overwhelmed his opponent in just :53 seconds.
Westfield’s second match ended with a similar result, a 60-0 shutout of Centreville. But this pairing featured some intense match-ups. Westfield managed only two pins, one of which was made by senior Jake Carey at 145 pounds, who pinned both his opponents Wednesday night. Centreville, meanwhile, also forfeited three matches.
The highlight of the night was a narrow, 6-5 victory at 171 pounds by Westfield’s Austin Fallon. Bulldog Jeremy Ryan ended the night with a convincing, 18-0 win at 102 pounds, which proved the largest point difference of the night.
